So, many of you who live in the Chicagoland area may know that there are several concerts happening this season that many folks haven’t been able to get tickets to. We have the hook-up AND you get to help our organization raise important funds to continue the work that we do.
Last year, we joined Aramark for our first season working concession stands and raised enough money to purchase our custom chicken coop from Classic Creators! Outside of the mulch and soil for our farm, it’s our biggest purchase yet, and provides great shelter for our hens and chicks!
Next month – July – we’ll be working the Beyonce and Ed Sheeran concerts and further in this season we’ll be adding some soccer matches, and all of the Bears home games.
It’s hard work, but we have a TON of fun. Or maybe our Executive Director does. She’s prone to breaking out into song and dance, and using her teacher voice to announce that we’re on a fifteen minute hold for pretzels. Those pretzels go so fast!
If you’re interested in partnering with us please send your legal name, address, date of birth, and shirt size to
volunteer@wesowwegrow.org
Before you get to sending us ALL of the questions, here are some FAQs that we’ve gotten over the months.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
16 & 17 with an adult 18 – 20 to prep, 21 and up to work the register and serve alcohol.
Do I have to live in Chicago to volunteer?
Nope, as long as you report for the date you ask for, you can live in a different country if you want.
What happens if I sign up and don’t show up?
We get fined $100 for each person who does that. We got fined a lot last season. Please don’t be the reason we get fined this season. You’ll also be marked as someone who will never be given this opportunity with our organization again.
Will we be able to sit and enjoy the show?
We’re selling concessions man. No, but we will be in a stand that has line sight of the screens that she is projected on.
Will we get a long enough break to go out to the stands to see the act or game?
We’re selling concessions man! None of us have paid for a ticket to grab a seat. Breaks are given during each shift however, there isn’t a set time given to each volunteer at the start of the shift. Everything depends on the ebb and flow of our stands.
Do I need to know how to cook anything before volunteering?
Nope, we teach you that when you report for duty.
Do I need a uniform?
Yes. You will need black pants (not leggings, sweats, or any ripped jeans) and black/neutral non-skid shoes.
Do I have to stand up the entire time?
WE’RE SELLING CONCESSIONS MAN!
Why should we do this?
Because you’re still looking for Beyonce/Ed Sheeran/Bears tickets and are considering selling a kidney. This will get you in the stadium, and the Executive Director knows that some of you believe in Beyonce/Ed Sheeran/Chicago Bears more than this random organization you’ve just learned about. With that being said, we are there to raise funds for our organization and should you choose to join us, you are by default representing our organization and we are always going to have fun while working, but we’ll be working.
What does volunteering really entail?
We’re selling concessions man! That can be anything from Bavarian Pretzels that people go crazy over to popcorn, hot dogs, polishes, Italian beef, pizza, pop, water, and beer. Only 21 and older will be able to work the registers, and that rule is enforced. Don’t get our organization kicked out.
What if we mess up?
It’s inevitable. You learn to get over it. Trust us.
Will we be outside?
Our home stand is on the first concourse. The weather in that stand is whatever the weather outside is. Extra locations are dependent on how many volunteers we have during any given event.
What other events can I volunteer for and what are the dates?
