We celebrate everything around here, because everything needs to be celebrated. If you have been with us from the start you know that at the end of the first season of running our farm, we started the process of putting a fence up and were stopped by a whole lot of confusion regarding permissions and general knowledge of city requirements.
By the way, fences can’t be higher than 5ft if you’re protecting land that isn’t quite yours just yet.
We were joined in this venture by employees from Lowes Home Improvement and some Habitat for Humanity employees and the day seemed glorious.
Now, 7 years later, we’ve completed the fence – we told you all, confusion -, with the help of Revolution Workshop and we couldn’t be happier! Revolution Workshop is a nonprofit social enterprise that provides construction workforce development for unemployed or underemployed people in partnership with area businesses. They deliver financial independence and careers through skills, hope, and resilience. We’re also looking forward to tagging them in when we finally find a spot for our farmhouse and community center!
We’re dreaming big!
While we are pleased as punch with the fence and the design of our Executive Director, we learned a lot about proper placement of entryways and thinking about flow of traffic. It’s hard to fix the mistakes of others, but the folks at RW took on the project with grace and completed work around decisions that we made 7 years ago.
Looking forward to hosting you all on the farm soon, make sure to stop by and say hello!
